Acquisition Alumni Network Program Services
Would I Be Interested in the Acquisition Alumni Network?
We believe the Alumni Network will have an appeal to many professionals, especially former federal Acquisition employees, who have retired from government, transitioned to the private sector, or changed industry focus during their careers.
More specifically, this program is ideal for individuals who desire to share their acquisition field experience, continue in government serving in a new capacity, connecting with old colleagues, and staying current on government procurement activities.
What Types of Services Would Be Offered Through the Alumni Network?
The Alumni Network will serve four main functions: 1) Networking, 2) Career Development, 3) Mentoring, and 4) Expertise Sharing. Below you will find more specific information about each service area.
- Networking: Alumni will be able to reconnect with old colleagues, make new contacts, share ideas, learn of open opportunities, or mentor new hires to acquisition. The Alumni Network webpage will host a number of resources to keep members informed and connected.
- Career Development: The career development resource will give alumni the opportunity to learn of new job opportunities in acquisition, provide job sharing, submit candidate referrals to agencies, and review continual updates on training and certifications programs available to the workforce.
- Mentoring: We believe that linking experienced alumni with current acquisition professionals may serve as a rewarding opportunity for both groups. Alumni will have the opportunity to volunteer as mentors to current entry-level Contracting Specialists (GS-1102). The mentoring program will initially serve as a pilot that builds upon the mentoring approach already designed by FAI. We believe this initiative will be most helpful for new employees and interns who belong to agencies as a supplement to their agency or intern programs. To learn more about the FAI mentoring program approach, please visit www.fai.gov/mentoring/index.asp.
- Expertise Sharing: Through acquisition forums and other social media, alumni will be able to share their expertise and offer advice to acquisition new hires as well as more experienced individuals in the workforce. This is a good spring board to focus on success, lessons-learned, growth, and leading practices in federal acquisition.
