FAC-P/PM Capstone Courses for Federal Government Program and Project Managers
FAI announces the launch of the FAC-P/PM Capstone Courses for Federal Government Program and Project Managers. These courses are designed to prepare participants for FAC-P/PM certification and will be available at each certification level – entry, mid/apprentice, and senior/expert. Because they are designed as capstone courses, it is necessary that those registering for the courses have completed the other coursework areas required for certification. Individuals who successfully pass the capstone courses will be eligible to receive FAC-P/PM certification for that level.
The course schedules for each of the three capstone courses, along with course descriptions, prerequisites, and other information about the courses is posted on FAI’s Training Application System.
- FAC-Project Management Entry Level Capstone course (FAC-PPM 100)
- FAC-Program/Project Management Mid Level Capstone course (FAC-PPM 200)
- FAC-Program Management Senior/Expert Level Capstone course (FAC-PPM 300)
All classes run a full day -- 8am to 4pm, Monday through Friday. Offerings in Washington DC will be held at Management Concepts training facility at 919 18th Street NW Suite 800, which is within walking distance from the orange/blue line Farragut West metro stop or the red line Farragut North metro stop.
One key challenge regarding these capstone courses is ensuring that participants have completed the prerequisites prior to registering for the courses. Participants in the capstone classes are expected to demonstrate proficiency in the material covered in the prerequisite courses as well as synthesize the range of information learned. Failure to complete the appropriate prerequisites inhibits the participants’ ability to uphold these assumptions of performance.
To make these courses successful and to prepare the program and project managers to be change leaders within their agencies, it is important not only that supervisors are informed about the prerequisites so that they only approve training requests for eligible participants, but also that participants understand what is expected of them. There are three key commitments participants must make to succeed and receive credit for the capstone courses:
1) Participants must attend every class;
2) Participants must participate in class exercises; and
3) Participants must complete the written assignment with a successful score
All of these commitment areas will be evaluated and each participants’ final Pass/Fail grade will be dependent upon receiving passing scores in all three areas.
FAI has invested considerable time, energy and research into what it takes to succeed as a program or project manager in the federal government. These courses reflect the product of that work and are first rate. Please contact Linda Ott at Federal Acquisition Institute (Otis.Langford@fai.gov) with your questions about these courses.
